Bratislava brewery Stein has a new owner - TAP International Bratislava - which was declared the winner of a public offer for Stein's property. TAP bid Sk71 million ($1.46 million) for the brewery, which has been in bankruptcy since 1999.
The company had said previously that if this current tender were not successful the famous beer producer would have to close. Two previous tenders to find an investor had failed.
Stein found itself in trouble when its production, which once stood at 700,000 hectolitres a year, started to tail off in the 1990s, falling to 250,000 hectolitres annually at the end of 1999 and dropping a further 47,000 over the first 10 months of last year.
