THE BIG three carmakers in Slovakia are continuing to hire new staff and have all announced that they are launching new shifts to meet demand, the Sme daily reported.

While KIA Motors in Teplička nad Váhom launched a third shift in January and started hiring up to 1,000 new people in October 2011, Bratislava-based Volkswagen and the PSA Peugeot in Trnava will follow suit in the coming months. Volkswagen will create up to 650 new jobs in order to produce the new Škoda Citigo and SEAT Mii models, part of its New Small Family series.

The hiring process for the jobs, which are mainly suited to people with technical qualifications and previous experience, is due to take place throughout February and March, VW spokesperson Vladimír Machalík told the TASR newswire. He added that all newly hired employees would attend training courses and enjoy benefits such as summer and Christmas bonuses.

PSA Peugeot will launch its three-shift regime from June, mainly because of an increased number of orders as well as production of the new Peugeot 208 at its Trnava plant, Sme wrote.
