Paris 1998, Participants of Convention ISG
The increasing globalisation of organizations is one of the biggest changes that directly impacts human resource consultancy. This was a main topic at the International Search Group conference held this past April in Paris.
The International Search Group is a consortium of search and selection consultancies each with its own well-established reputation for its outstanding accomplishments in national and international projects. Only one company represents the group in each country. Members of the ISG are located in the following countries: Australia, Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Great Britain, Hungary, India, Italy, Norway, Poland, Russia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Sweden, and Switzerland. The group is much more than an international association for referring work. Each member is required to manage the assignments that refer to other members. Group members work together and are jointly accountable to the client. Each member has the expertise to manage successful projects for most industry sectors and across a full range of management and specialised positions. Each company provides the following services: Executive search, advertised selection, human resources consultancy in a wide area of people management issues, psychometric testing of candidates and employees, and a full recruitment project service for new companies and companies investing in a country for the first time.
Consultancy in international projects depends on the capability of consultants to recognise the cultural differences in global environments. Consultants must understand international business, different cultural behavioural patterns at work and find pragmatic ways to resolve the dilemmas of international cooperation. National cultures have an influence on the business environment, on the corporate culture, on interpersonal relationships and also on the management style. A key issue for consultants in international projects is cross-cultural understanding and the capability to interpret behaviour in a cultural context. The globalisation of business requires a special effort to upgrade human resources and management capabilities and this is a big challenge for international human resource consultancies in Slovakia.
