As spring unfurls across the Central European landscape, there’s a distinct feeling in the air—a refreshing shift in energy that speaks to both the earth and our hearts. The season’s renewal brings not only the blooming of flowers and the return of wildlife, but also a chance for growth and reflection within our communities.

This season also mirrors the vibrant changes within the International Women’s Club of Bratislava (IWCB). With a new executive board in place, we are filled with a fresh spring energy, eager to continue our mission of supporting those in need. We look forward to an enriching administration that will guide us through a period of expansion, connection, and empowerment.

But this year, as the flowers bloom and the animals stir, nature also whispers a cautionary tale. Recent reports of rabies reemerging in the region, alongside the continuing spread of animal-borne illnesses, remind us of our intricate—and at times precarious—interdependence. We are not separate from nature. We are part of its great cycle.

This season, many of us are reconsidering the way we live alongside animals. Respectful cohabitation means more than not disturbing a hedgehog’s nest or slowing down for deer near the road—it also means rethinking consumption. Eating less meat, choosing ethical and sustainable food sources, and supporting local farmers who prioritize animal welfare are not only kind choices—they are wise ones, too.

The earth is generous. It gives us abundance in roots, leaves, and fruit. And in return, we are asked to tread lightly, listen deeply, and live in balance. Spring calls us back into this sacred rhythm—where less harm can mean more harmony.

Let us take inspiration from the season: to grow, to awaken, and to be in right relationship with the wild beauty around us.
