Slovak households will pay more for energy next year, since the prices of electricity, gas and heat will increase next year.

The main reason is the current development of prices on the global markets, where the prices of electricity have increased by more than 27 percent, while natural gas has gone up by more than 24 percent, and emission quota permissions by 222 percent.

“The prices on the markets have simply gone mad,” said Ľubomír Jahnátek, chair of the Regulatory Office for Network Industries (ÚRSO), as quoted by the SITA newswire.

How much will the households pay for electricity?

The price for electricity in households will increase by 5.66 percent on average at the beginning of next year, while the price of gas for households will go up by 5.67 percent on average and the price of heat by 4.70 percent on average. Water and sewage fees will increase by 1.70 percent on average, the TASR newswire reported.

“If ÚRSO accepted the proposals of electricity suppliers to the full extent, the electricity prices for Slovak households would increase by 13.86 percent,” Jahnátek said, as quoted by TASR.

Households living in small apartments with a typical consumption of up to 1,000 kilowatt hours (kWh) will pay as much as €0.70 more. In households with higher consumption (about 2,300 kWh), the average price will increase by about €2 a month.

Gas will also go up

Regarding natural gas, the price for households will rise by 5.67 percent on average. If a family’s consumption of gas for cooking and water heating is 14,000 kWh a year, the price will rise by €0.90 a month, Jahnátek explained, as reported by TASR.
