The landowners recently met with representatives of Žilina Invest, Goinvest I and Goinvest II, three companies which secured the purchase of these land plots for the car plant.

The landowners agreed at that meeting to ask the Slovak Cabinet Office to expedite resolution of the issues and said that if they do not receive an answer or their money they will block the road leading to the factory.

“We will wait for the stance of the government and if necessary we will block the road with old cars, though we believe that Kia is not to blame for this situation,” said Justína Kozánková, a representative of the unhappy former landowners.

The disgruntled former landowners include persons who say the government did not pay them the promised compensation of €11.62 per square meter for their land and also persons who received no basic payment at all because their inheritance proceedings have not yet been concluded and their land was expropriated as property with unknown owners.
