Committee members approved some of the opposition’s demands for additional information and records at its session that ended late on April 26. Thus, the Financial Administration needs to present, for instance, the list of criteria under which it selected companies for financial audit in 2012, opposition MPs Igor Matovič (Ordinary People and Independent Personalities, OĽaNO-NOVA),Daniel Lipšic (OĽaNO-NOVA) and Jozef Rajtár (Freedom and Soldarity, SaS) said at a press conference on April 27.
“We’re really interested to learn the criteria under which the Financial Administration decided that it won’t audit someone who founded a company and all of a sudden applied for excessive VAT allowances worth €6 million," said Matovič, referring to the VAT allowances received in 2012 by the company of Ladislav Bašternák. Moreover, MPs demand to see the complete list of all excessive VAT allowances granted to companies affiliated with him.

Opposition MPs have information that Bašternák has lived off excessive VAT allowances throughout his entire life. "We asked for this information, so we can verify it,” they explain, as quoted by the TASR newswire.
Bašternák is a former neighbour of Interior Minister Robert Kaliňák and built a complex of apartment buildings close to the Bratislava Castle that boasts residents such as Prime Minister Robert Fico, Transport Minister Ján Počiatek and businessman Marián Kočner.
