The Finance Ministry had offered the tender to the agency with the best plans for organizing a communication campaign on euro adoption by early May. The campaign was projected to cost Sk134.5 million without VAT.

But the tender was soon withdrawn after its publication when numerous advertising and media companies began complaining the criteria were ambiguous. Potential bidders also faulted the criteria for being geared toward certain agencies.

"The Finance Ministry strives to maintain as great a degree of transparency in the tender process as possible, and was aiming for the credible, unproblematic selection of a strong and experienced partner that could guarantee the successful implementation of an efficient and high-quality information campaign," the ministry wrote in a statement.

The ministry stated a new public tender, which will take the information gained during the market survey into account, would be announced shortly.
