AUTOMOTIVE components manufacturer Getrag Ford Transmissions Slovakia, s.r.o. is planning to build a logistics service centre in Slovakia worth approximately €30 million. It would create 220 new jobs in the Kechnec industrial park, in the east of the country. The company plans to begin construction this month, according to information submitted for its Environmental Impact Assessment. The centre should be completed next May, the SITA newswire reported on October 2.
The company will be able to store 300,000 gearboxes, 80,000 motorcycle transmissions and 600,000 camshaft gears at the new site. The logistics centre will occupy an area of more than 12,000 square metres. The company plans to extend its production and administrative facilities with additional buildings at the centre which would receive, classify, package, unload, wash or dispatch various materials and products.
Getrag Ford Transmissions Slovakia opened a production plant for transmissions in the Kechnec industrial park in 2006. It began producing motorcycle transmissions at the end of 2006 and dual-clutch transmissions in 2007. The company has created 787 direct jobs in the region. Getrag Ford Transmissions Slovakia has invested €345 million (Sk10.393 billion) in the Kechnec park. Annual turnover of the Slovak plant is expected to reach €300-400 million (Sk9.037-12.050 billion).
Getrag Ford Transmissions Slovakia, s.r.o. is one of four production plants operated by Getrag Ford Transmissions, a supplier of complex transmission systems. The company is based in Cologne, in Germany.
