WHILE most of the world’s beverage companies are competing to make and market the best energy drink, a Slovak company is moving in the opposite direction. The Red Point company is producing a drink to calm people down.
“The idea to create the opposite of an energy drink was born during a return from holiday,” said Lucián Gróf, Red Point’s director, as quoted in the Hospodárske Noviny economic daily. “I’m afraid of flying and I asked myself why a drink doesn’t exist that would make a passenger fall asleep quickly.”
He found support and valuable help from his wife who was studying medicine at the time. She began selecting the basic ingredients and working on various recipes. After nearly two years of development they released ‘Good Night’ in October 2009 as the first stress-relief and calming drink available in the Slovak market. The company said the formula for its carbonated soft drink consists of extracts from valerian, lavender and rosehips and that it contains no preservatives, artificial colours or flavours.
The company is now eyeing the possibility of entering markets in the Czech Republic, Russia, Great Britain, Sweden and the US.
