Addressing Labour Shortages with Global Talent
Slovakia has faced a persistent labor shortage for some years, impacting all industries. To meet the growing demand for global talent, ProRelo, a leader in relocation and immigration services, has been pivotal in helping companies and individuals navigate Slovakia’s complex employment landscape.

Celebrating 20 Years in Business
This year, ProRelo proudly celebrates 20 years of service in Slovakia, solidifying its position as a trusted partner for companies seeking to attract and retain top talent from around the world. Their relocation and immigration services are tailored to meet the specific needs of companies operating in Slovakia, offering comprehensive corporate support for HR departments. One of their key offerings is immigration training, designed to equip HR professionals, recruiters, and business owners with the knowledge and skills needed to navigate the complex world of immigration.
“Navigating immigration and settling down in a new country can be an incredibly stressful experience, often topped up by unfamiliar cultural differences. Moving to a new country is not just about changing locations; it's about adapting to a new way of life, understanding cultural nuances, and building a sense of belonging in a foreign environment. The goal for every employer should be to provide a smooth transition for individuals and their families, allowing them to settle in quickly, seamlessly integrate into their new environment, and perform at work at their best from day one. Whether it's assistance with visa applications, navigating healthcare systems, or understanding local customs and traditions, we are here to guide our clients every step of the way”, says Ivona Demáčková, General Manager and Partner of ProRelo in Slovakia and Poland.
In addition to supporting companies, ProRelo also provides invaluable support for individuals seeking immigration assistance in Slovakia. Whether it's assistance with driving license exchange, navigating the healthcare system, securing visas and permits, or managing necessary documents for residency and work permits, ProRelo offers personalized support to ensure a smooth transition.
Adapting to Global Challenges
Over the past two decades, ProRelo has helped customers adapt to numerous changes in the global mobility sector. The COVID-19 pandemic, travel restrictions, border closures, and lockdowns disrupted international mobility, forcing us to embrace remote work, virtual consultations, and digital document processing. The war in Ukraine introduced additional complexities.
The global mobility sector has increasingly prioritized quality in service delivery, recognizing the importance of providing tailored solutions that meet the unique needs of each client. This focus on quality has led to the implementation of rigorous standards, certification processes, and continuous improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing customer satisfaction.
“By investing in technology and process optimization, including ISO-9001 certification, we have been able to successfully navigate through these challenges and elevate the overall experience for our clients. I hope we are an example of adapting to and thriving in a dynamic and ever-changing environment”, adds Ivona Demáčková.
After a few very intense years, ProRelo's recent milestones further underscore its commitment to providing exceptional service to its clients. This April, the company moved to a new office location at Svatoplukova 31 in Bratislava.
"Our move to a new location not only signifies a milestone of 20 years in the business but also marks the beginning of an exciting chapter for ProRelo," says Ivona Demáčková, "With two decades of successful operation in the market, we are excited to celebrate our anniversary in the new location. We created a space where employees will enjoy coming to work, and we look forward to having a welcoming environment to host meetings and education sessions for our clients".
Lessons Learned
Reflecting on her own experience as a business owner and women entrepreneur, Ivona continues: “As ProRelo celebrates 20 years in Slovakia and 25 years in Poland, I've found that maintaining a hands-on approach allows me to preserve our company's vision and culture amidst growth. I prioritize commitment to quality and exceeding expectations, emphasizing excellence in service delivery and procedures while focusing on the human element. Over my two decades in business, I've recognized the importance of adapting my leadership style to various situations, sometimes requiring a visionary outlook, while at other times necessitating decisiveness or providing support and guidance. At work, I highly value effective communication, trust, empathy, honesty, professionalism, and a readiness for change. I firmly believe that success lies in the collective achievements of my team, and I remain flexible to meet the evolving needs of our customers”.
Looking Ahead: The Importance of Integration and HR Knowledge
The integration of international employees is more critical than ever, especially as these workers are no longer just temporary assignees but often permanent additions to local teams. Providing immigration and relocation support not only with practical matters like healthcare and housing but also with a deep understanding of cultural differences is essential, regardless of the employee’s job position.
As competition for global talent intensifies, employers who invest in helping their international employees settle in, feel welcome, and thrive in their new environment are more likely to stand out. The need for support extends beyond the initial relocation —ensuring that these employees and their families are fully integrated into the community is vital for their long-term success.
HR professionals are increasingly required to deepen their knowledge as the complexities of managing an international workforce expand. They must now navigate not only immigration processes but also the intricacies of cultural and language differences, necessitating ongoing education in these critical areas.
“For our clients, efficiently streamlining the arrival and integration of international workers is crucial. Achieving this requires modern solutions that facilitate various processes. Our focus is on service delivery, consultancy, and provision of knowledge that will help empower HR professionals, ease the experience for international workers and make their transition less stressful.”
