HEALTH INSURANCE companies in Slovakia closed the year 2006 with Sk224.6 million (€6.7 million) in surplus for the current year, and reported a total income of Sk79.5 billion (€2.37 billion). According to the draft of the final account in the budget chapter of the Health Ministry, which was presented to the Cabinet on May 9, health insurance companies received insurance premiums of Sk78.3 billion (€2.34 billion).
Of these amounts, employers contributed Sk13.93 billion (€0.42 billion); employees paid Sk35.12 billion (€1.04 billion); self-employed people paid Sk4.37 billion (€0.13 billion); and the state paid over Sk23.4 billion (€0.7 billion). Based on the results of reconciliation of paid health insurance premiums for 2005, the state paid an extra Sk411.7 million (€12.3 million) for its policyholders.
