Highway fees go electronic

AS OF January 2015 drivers on Slovak highways should be able to pay highway tolls using electronic highway stickers, purchased via the internet or their mobile phones. Drivers will thus no longer have to place a physical sticker on their windshields, but will have a virtual sticker instead, which will be connected with the car’s identification number.

This stems from a law passed by parliament on November 27, which introduces the electronisation of the system of sale of highway stickers for vehicles of up to 3.5 tonnes, the TASR newswire reported.
Traditional stickers, which are valid for 10 days, one month, or one year, will continue to be sold as well.
