ROHOŽNÍK-based construction materials producer Holcim (Slovensko) has started the process of merging with Východoslovenské Stavebné Hmoty (VSH) based in Turňa nad Bodvou, the SITA newswire reported on November 3. For now the companies will continue to operate independently with their own managements, but will merge fully in the near future.
“We hope that the merger will be over in 2012, but we cannot confirm this for now,” said Peter Robl, spokesperson of Holcim.
Antitrust authorities in Slovakia, Hungary and Austria have already okayed the increase in the share which Holcim holds in VSH to 100 percent. Holcim CEO Alan Šišinački has become head of the board of directors at VSH.
The move will see the Holcim group further strengthen its position in Slovakia. The merger should result in the creation of a leading supplier of construction materials and services with more than 1,000 employees, two cement mills and a network of concrete plants and gravel pits across Slovakia.
Holcim (Slovensko) is the biggest producer of construction materials in Slovakia. It is part of the Holcim group, one of the world’s biggest cement producers.
