M2 grew 8.9% yr/yr last December

The M2 money supply aggregate (the amount of money circulating in the economy) grew by 8.9 percent annually last December, a spokeswoman for the NBS's Monetary Department announced on February 18. It is a considerable improvement over the 11.5 percent recorded in November and the 12.9 percent in October. In December 1996, the annual M2 growth was 16.5 percent. Full details of Dec97 M2 growth have not yet been released.
