Recent layoffs in the country’s biggest business service centres have raised concerns over the health of what is Slovakia’s third largest economic sector.
Martina Slabejová, executive director of the American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham) in Slovakia, sees the recent developments in the sector as a reflection of wider global changes, as society and businesses respond also to the growth of artificial intelligence (AI).
“I’m not worried [about what is happening], it’s just a phase, replicating what’s going on in the world,” she told The Slovak Spectator.
What is important is for the sector to have a pool of people able to learn new things and prepare for new jobs that are being created, she adds.
In an interview with The Slovak Spectator, Slabejová discussed how AI is affecting various industries, as well as other major business topics, including the effects of the war in Ukraine, how a change in government has affected business, labour shortages, nuclear energy, and the 30th anniversary of AmCham.
