SEVERAL new investors have announced plans to build production facilities in Slovakia.
The Italian company Fonderia di Torbole SpA has chosen eastern Slovakia as the location of a new factory making brake discs and other car components. It will invest between €35 million and €45 million in Lipany near Sabinov to build the new plant. The investor plans to create 240 jobs at the plant, the SITA newswire wrote.
Mayor of Lipany Eduard Vokál and the director and owner of Fonderia di Torbole SpA, Enrico Frigerio, signed a memorandum of understanding between the town and the firm on May 13. The Italian investor is scheduled to sign a contract by the end of the year. After the contract is signed, it will begin building a new plant on an 80,000 square-metre plot in the local industrial park.
On May 14, it was announced that two unnamed suppliers to Sony in Nitra plan to create a thousand new jobs. The Japanese electronic giant has already attracted to Nitra firms including Meiki, Farquell, Daidong and Ryoka.
The new investors plan to purchase about 15 hectares of land in the local industrial park and employ about a thousand people in their new facilities, according to Nitra Invest representative Ondrej Scurka. He thinks that it will be the second biggest investment in the industrial park after Sony itself.
Sony is keen to see the arrival of the suppliers in the park, since it has already been cooperating with them for 35 years. Scurka said that letters of intent should be signed in May or June of this year.
