The war in Ukraine, the energy crisis, inflation. These are the factors that negatively affected the year 2022. Nevertheless, many Slovak companies are experiencing great times, as indicated by their economic results for last year.
Index magazine compiled a ranking of the most profitable companies for 2022 based on FinStat data. Sitting in the top two positions is a pair of companies whose profit after tax almost reached the half-billion euros threshold.
10) Kia Slovakia
Area: automobile manufacturer
Revenue: €6.8 billion (+ 22 percent)
Profit after tax: €175.5 million (- 21 percent)
In recent years, when car companies faced disruptions in their supply chains, the Žilina-based Kia fared better than its competitors. The company also grew regarding the number of manufactured cars, increasing year-on-year from 307,000 to 311,000. Engine production also grew. All of this reflected in sales, which rose by 22 percent year-on-year and exceeded €6 billion for the first time. However, the car company's profit fell by a fifth. Despite this, it was enough to make it into the top ten most profitable companies in Slovakia.
9) Tatra Banka
Area: finance
Revenue: €527.3 million (+ 9 percent)
Profit after tax: €193.8 million (+ 28 percent)
In the last 15 years, 2022 was the best for Tatra Banka. Last year, its revenue exceeded half a billion euros, and profit rose by 28 percent year-on-year to €194 million. Actually, in 2021 the bank also achieved record numbers. According to the bank, last year's good results were due to an increase in revenue in all major categories.
