“In the majority of sectors Slovak salaries have not reached the level of Czech salaries after nearly 20 years since the separation [of Czechoslovakia],” said Lucia Burianová, Profesia’s PR manager, as quoted by the SITA newswire. She added that Slovaks do have salaries higher than their western neighbours in the pharmaceutical sector, in production and distribution of electricity, and in shared service centres, adding that in other sectors the differences can be quite small.

“There is a difference of only a few percent, that means less than €100,” Burianová stated.

The survey showed that the Slovaks who earn the highest salaries work in the information technology, leasing, communication, pharmaceutical and banking sectors. The lowest salaries are for employees in social-care facilities, bars, restaurants and cafeterias, and the textile industry.
