Vladimír Masár, the National Bank of Slovakia (NBS) Governor, arrived in Washington, D.C. on October 2 to take part in the annual International Monetary Fund (IMF) and World Bank conference. Masár maintained that along with solving recent problems with the Asian and Russian crises, which are included in both IMF and WB programmes, he will have to face a specific task.
"Many investors and bankers will be interested in the latest NBS decision, which needs to be cleared up," Masár said regarding the cancellation of fluctuation band of the Slovak crown. "Our strategy and aims and how we want to keep the currency stable need to be explained. NBS still aims to reach the goals set by legislation, which is the stability of the currency," Masár said.
