MOBILE operator Orange Slovensko launched the commercial operation of a modern optic network in Slovakia on September 3.

The new technology based on FTTH (fibre to the home) technology lets the company offer new multimedia services such as Fibernet and digital TV, as well as fixed line phone service, through one optic connection, the TASR newswire wrote.

Fibernet enables the fastest commercially-available connection to the internet for households in Slovakia.

Orange expects that about 200,000 households in 11 towns across Slovakia will be connected to the optic network by the end of the year.

Orange has been building and developing the optic network since 2001. It currently extends for 2,500 kilometres and it's still growing.

Investments into the network have so far totalled Sk3 billion (€88.2 million).
