The remainder of the September salaries of employees of engineering firms ZŤS TEES Martin and ZTS TEES Martinske Strojarne have been paid.

Peter Janiček, vice chairman of the metalworkers trade union KOVO, said on November 13 that a question mark still hovers over October wages, the deadline for whose settlement is November 30. The companies' managements have not yet decided how to settle these wages.

On November 12, about 1,500 employees of ZTS TEES Martin and ZTS TEES Martinske Strojarne struck in front of the gates of the Martin engineering works. The workers were protesting the non-payment of wages.

An expert group involving Ministry of Economy officials has been formed to help stabilise the machinery works, which are based in the northern Slovak town of Martin. "If these proposals come through, they will be publicly presented on November 24 in the presence of Economy Minister Ľudovít Černák and the Minister of Labor, Social Affairs, and Family, Peter Magvaši," said Janiček. The expert commission is to help stabilise employment as well as improve the social situation of employees and assess the viability of individual companies.
