RegioJet to connect Zvolen with Prague

PRIVATE carrier RegioJet is to commence a direct rail service from Zvolen (Banská Bystrica Region) to Prague.

The trains will also travel through Banská Bystrica, Martin and Žilina. The whole journey should take about eight hours from Zvolen and a little over seven hours on the way back, the SITA newswire reported.

“Passengers travelling from Banská Bystrica and Zvolen will have the opportunity to travel directly to the Czech Republic without the need to change trains,” RegioJet head Radim Jančura said, as quoted by SITA, adding they also plan to add a bus service from Rimavská Sobota to the Horehronie region, which will depart from Banská Bystrica.

The train should also stop in Sliač, Turčianske Teplice, Horná Štubňa and Vrútky in Slovakia and Havířov, Ostrava, Olomouc and Pardubice in the Czech Republic.

RegioJet will increase train connections between the Czech Republic and Slovakia. Night trains between Košice and Prague will for example, depart daily as opposed to three times a week. There will be four of trains, with total capacity of 2,000 passengers.

“Our mission is to become the main carrier on long distance routes between the Czech Republic and central and eastern Slovakia,” Jančura continued, as quoted by SITA.
