THE SLOVAK dominant power producer Slovenské Elektrárne (SE) has taken another step toward completing the third and fourth units of the Mochovce nuclear power plant, the SITA newswire wrote.
On June 18, SE submitted a document entitled "Quality Requirements" to the Nuclear Supervision Authority for evaluation.
"This is a document that deals with the requirements of the completed nuclear plant," Peter Uhrík, director of the Supervision Authority's inspection department told SITA. If the Supervision Authority has no objections to the document, SE will move on to request permission to put the plant into operation.
SE plans to complete the Mochovce nuclear plant's third and fourth units, which were left unfinished when the plant started operating in 1998, and already has a valid construction permit, meaning that it can officially start the completion process.
Giancarlo Aquilanti, director of the Mochovce plant, expects construction to start next spring. He estimates the costs will come to €1.4 billion. SE plans to connect the third reactor of the Mochovce nuclear power plant to the grid at the beg12.
SE is controlled by the Italian power company Enel, which holds a 66-percent stake in the Slovak energy provider.
