SLOVENSKÉ Elektrárne (SE), the country’s dominant electricity producer, plans to begin refurbishing its coal-fired power station in Nováky this year, the SITA newswire wrote on April 1.
SE will invest €75 million into its two thermal power stations, in Nováky and Vojany, with the bulk going to Nováky, Carlo Tamburi, the director of the international division of Enel, the majority owner of SE, said at the company’s annual press conference in Rome.
The investment into the power station in Nováky means keeping work for 4,500 local miners producing brown coal for the power station and 500 jobs at the power station.
SE will modernise its facility at Nováky so that it meets environmental limits of the EU, to be valid as of 2016. The installed capacity of the Nováky power station, whose construction started in 1949, is 518 MW, making up about 9 percent of the total installed capacity of SE.
