The Pravda daily paper reported that a struggle had begun for control of the SLKB shipyards, with executive director Jozef Žucha laying charges against company officials close to the SMK ethnic Hungarian party for libel and blackmail.
Žucha claimed August 24 that the officials tried to force him to resign as director after he refused a position on the board of directors in an early August personnel shuffle, and said the changes might endanger the company, which recently received a 20 million German mark loan to support new construction. The SMK has denied the allegations.
