Slovakia's current account deficit was $1.0946 billion in the first half of 1998, compared to a 1.0063 billion deficit in the same period last year, the Slovak National Bank (NBS) said on September 24. The greatest changes were recorded in services, which went from a $13.1 million shortfall in 1H97 to $112.4 million this year, and in investment income, which lurched from a $58.9 million surplus in 1H97 to a $71.7 million deficit in 1H98.
