Slovak Post signed an agreement worth 11.3 million DEM (220 million Sk) with the German company Siemens ElectroCom for the supply of postal sorting machines for the main post offices in Bratislava and Košice on November 14. The sorting lines are fully automatic and are able to sort 35,000 pieces of mail per hour. The success ratio of the equipment is 99 percent if addresses are typewritten, and 60 percent if handwritten. At the end of 1998, the first line will be installed in Košice, which will start regular operations in April 1999. The Bratislava line will start operations in November 1999.
