Slovakia’s leading EV charging network, GreenWay, has attracted a major international investor to accelerate its expansion.

The company, founded by Peter Badík, is already a key player in Poland and has recently entered Croatia. In 2022, two Israeli investment funds joined Slovak investors Janom Investment and Neulogy Ventures. Now, French fund Mirova has become GreenWay’s largest shareholder with a €50 million capital injection.

Mirova is part of Natixis Investment Managers, which manages over €1.3 trillion in assets, ranking as the world’s 19th largest investment fund. For Badík, securing an investor of this scale marks the peak of his 14-year effort in building EV infrastructure. The investment comes at a critical time for Europe’s EV market, where slower sales are challenging manufacturers. Expanding charging networks is seen as key to reversing this trend.

Growth and leadership changes

GreenWay plans to double its network capacity this year, prioritising faster charging speeds over adding new locations. The company currently operates nearly 4,500 charging connectors across 1,300 sites, with a third offering high-power charging above 50 kW.

Mirova brings 20 years of experience in sustainable energy investments, having financed over 1,000 projects in 50 countries. It manages €32 billion in assets, with over €4 billion dedicated to infrastructure supporting the energy transition. In low-carbon mobility, it has stakes in Driveco, Zunder, JET Charge, and NEoT Green Mobility.

With Mirova’s investment, GreenWay is adjusting its leadership. Founder Badík is transitioning to chairman of the board, focusing on strategy. Day-to-day operations will be managed by country heads, improving flexibility. Slovak operations will be led by Michal Mydlo, while Rafał Czyżewski, previously in charge of Poland, becomes GreenWay Holding’s CEO.

Expanding GreenWay’s reach

Launched in 2011, GreenWay serves nearly 130,000 EV drivers and provides access to thousands of additional charging points across Europe via roaming partnerships. It also supports businesses looking to install charging stations or electrify their fleets. The company’s network has helped prevent over 15,000 tonnes of CO₂ emissions.

GreenWay’s clients in Slovakia include Tesco, railway operator Železnice SR, and developer JTRE.
