THE STATE will allocate another €85 million for the completion of the third and fourth blocks of the nuclear power plant in Mochovce (EMO), based on an agreement between the shareholders of the owner of the plant, Slovenské Elektrárne (SE), the SITA newswire reported on January 21.
The total cost to construct the two blocks will come to €3.8 billion, unlike the originally planned €2.8 billion. The SE shareholders, i.e. the Slovak state, which owns 34 percent, and Italian company Enel, with 66 percent, have already agreed to allocate €500 million. This means that the company still lacks some €400 million.
The completion of the third and fourth units at Mochovce was postponed from the end of 2012 and autumn 2013, respectively, to the end of 2014 and 2015. The two blocks should have an installed capacity of 1,000 MW.
SE began the completion of the two blocks on November 3, 2008. It officially signed the contracts in June 2009 with the main construction companies involved in the project: the Czech Škoda Jaderné Strojírenství, Atomstroyexport from Russia, Slovak firms VUJE, Enseco and Inžinierske Stavby Košice, and Italian firm Enel Ingegneria & Innovazione.
