“Slnečnice is the only comprehensive project that offers family houses in combination with low-rise blocks of apartments in Bratislava,” said project manager Matej Ceconík. “Thus, after a long period of time, the segment of [single] family houses which used to prevail in Petržalka will return.”

Slnečnice is the first part of a project to develop a new city quarter called Južné Mesto – Southern City – which in addition to its residential dwellings will have recreational and shopping areas.

The Slnečnice project should be completed by 2012. The Cresco Group development firm and international developer Avestus Real Estate (formerly Quinlan Private Golub) are backers of the project.

When the Southern City project was first unveiled in March 2008, construction work on the €1.5-billion development was expected to begin later in 2008 with a completion date for the entire new city quarter scheduled for 2017.
