One clear factor that has accelerated Takenaka’s growth is the trend for clients to downsize their own engineering departments and buy in expertise only when necessary. This has increased demand for the general design and contracting services that Takenaka can offer.

Takenaka Europe’s branch in Slovakia was founded in 2000, with its headquarters in Žilina, northwestern Slovakia.

“Japanese and German work cultures share similarities. Excellence through discipline, teamwork, and respect drives our success. We prioritise quality in our services, uphold responsibility and reliability, and value organised, systematic approaches. By fulfilling our obligations on time and honouring these principles, we achieve outstanding results,” says Petr Urválek, General Manager Slovakia Branch of the Takenaka Europe GmbH.

Today, its employees plan and coordinate construction projects in the areas of production facilities, office buildings and, more recently, residential buildings and the outfitting of buildings.

As part of its integrated approach, it has implemented Building Information Modelling (BIM), a technology that involves constructing accurate virtual models of a building digitally. It has already used BIM, for example, to build Jaguar Land Rover’s plant in Nitra, western Slovakia.

PROJECTS IN SLOVAKIA

In Slovakia, Takenaka participated in constructing the production facilities of Sony in Nitra and Mobis in Žilina, offices for Amazon, the distinctive Metropolis residential project in Bratislava, and three car plants, to mention just a few.

The first car plant was Kia Motors’ factory in Teplička nad Váhom in north-eastern Slovakia, spreading over 225,000 m². In 2018, it completed the Jaguar Land Rover plant in Nitra, which covers 265,000 m², in cooperation with its Czech sister company. For this achievement, it was awarded gold at the 2019 ‘Supplier Excellence Awards’. In terms of sustainability the project was also BREEAM-certified as ‘Excellent’. It is currently working on building the new Volvo Car plant near Košice, eastern Slovakia, which will cover over 340,000 m². It is scheduled for completion by 2026.
