As the automotive industry undergoes a transformation to electromobility, component production is changing too.
One clear example of this is at Volkswagen Slovakia’s plant in Martin, north-western Slovakia, which until recently focused purely on production of components for combustion engines.
Now, though, it is also turning out a differential for VW’s Premium Platform Electric (PPE, the modular car platform for electric cars developed by Volkswagen Group brands Audi and Porsche), which is used exclusively in premium electric cars – a move the company says makes the plant’s future more robust.
“It makes sense to have a presence in both the traditional internal combustion engine segment, which involves components like wheels and shafts, as well as in the new world of electromobility,” said Wolfram Kirchert, Chairman of the Board, and board member responsible for technical affairs, at Volkswagen Slovakia.

This expansion of production required an investment of €46 million – a clear signal that the plant’s German parent company is committed to its future.
