The largest cargo centre

THE SENEC Cargo Centre, located near Bratislava, aspires to become the largest logistics centre in Slovakia, which would have a huge impact on the whole infrastructure of the western Slovak region. The centre, which stretches over 100 hectares, is the brainchild of Slovakia's IPEC Group and Austrian firm UBM Realitatenentwicklung AG.

Overall investment in the centre is estimated at €250 million. Construction began in 2004 and should be completed by 2010. The next two years should see 1,500 to 2,000 new jobs created at its distribution and logistics centre. The project also involves the construction of a commercial centre called the "Senec Shopping Village", along with administrative and housing units.

The cargo centre is located directly along highway E75 to Senec, which is only 24 kilometres from Bratislava and 19 kilometres from the Bratislava airport.

According to market expectations, transportation and logistics should experience strong growth in the new EU members. Mutual trade among the Czech Republic, Poland, and Hungary should be the most dynamic. The transportation services market should grow 9 percent by 2007, while the logistics market should increase by 20 percent.
