MUNICIPALITIES demand more money for next year's budgets and want to ask the finance minister to inform the cabinet about what they say is insufficient funding for 2004.
Representatives of the Association of Slovak towns and villages (ZMOS) said at a press conference on September 18 that they want the cabinet to revise next year's budgetary plans and increase the funds for Slovakia's municipalities by Sk1.035 billion (€25.16 million), up from the planned Sk32 billion (€777.85 million) in the 2004 state budget.
According to ZMOS chairman Michal Sýkora, the increase would enable municipalities to financially cover all spheres of competence, including the heavily indebted schools, local roads maintenance, as well as the planned wage increase for public servants.
