Nine months into 1998, the Slovak trade balance deficit hit 55.04 billion Sk ($1.52 billion), which according to economic analysts is still well over 10% of GDP. September's trade figures show a deficit of 4.285 billion Sk, which is the lowest monthly total this year.
In geographic terms, Slovakia posted the highest trade deficit with OECD countries (21.423 billion Sk), of which the deficit with EU countries came to 14.195 billion Sk. On the other hand, Slovakia showed a surplus of 6.1 billion Sk in trade with countries of the Central European Free Trade Association.
