THE REGIONAL electricity distributor Východoslovenská Energetika (VSE) is considering construction of a solar power plant. The company is actively seeking options to erect or acquire power-generating sources.
As the region of Medzibrožie enjoys the best conditions in eastern Slovakia with regard to solar energy, VSE has made a proposal to the town of Kráľovský Chlmec, the SITA newswire reported.
The mayor of Kráľovský Chlmec, Jozef Balog, confirmed discussions about the project, saying the town could rent an area of about four hectares for the needs of VSE.
The activities of VSE in seeking to build renewable energy sources relate to Slovakia’s commitment, as part of the EU, to increase the proportion of renewable energy sources to consumed electrical energy to 14 percent by 2020, SITA wrote.
Another large solar power plant could also emerge within the area of the town of Poltár, as the Emel Energy company has announced it intends to build such a facility in the Jelšoviny locality across 21 hectares. It would be the biggest solar power plant in Slovakia, the TASR newswire reported.
The spokesman for Poltár, Ondrej Lepiš, said members of the town council have already approved the plan.
The chairman of the board of Emel Energy, Peter Badik, told TASR that the company needs to persuade energy distribution companies to cooperate with the project.
