Volkswagen Slovakia is the company’s best plant

THE BEST plant of the German carmaker Volkswagen for the year 2014 is its Bratislava-based one, Volkswagen Slovakia (VW SK), according to an award given internally by the company.

The facility received the "mach18.FACTORY Oscar‘" award, the carmaker informed. It was awarded to the Slovak leaders by Martin Winterkorn, chair of Board of Volkswagen, and Thomas Ulbrich, member of the Board of Volkswagen responsible for production and logistics.

"We have received this award for a second consecutive time,” Albrecht Reimold, chair of the VW SK Board, said. “It is a thank you to the whole Volkswagen Slovakia team for their diligence and engagement. It also emphasis the fact that effective and environmentally-friendly car production is not just a phrase but everyday part of our corporate culture.”

The award has been given since 2013 to the plant of Volkswagen brand which fulfils best the goals set by the mach18.FACTORY strategy which strives at effective, environmentally-friendly production.

Volkswagen Slovakia has produced since 1991 more than 4 million cars, being one of the biggest employers in the country with more than 9,900 people. Cars produced in Bratislava include Volkswagen Touareg, Audi Q7, Volkswagen up!, Volkswagen e-up!, SEAT Mii, ŠKODA Citigo, bodyworks and gearboxes of Porsche Cayenne; and in Martin components for gearboxes, preparing vehicles for export in Košice and producing machinery for car production in Stupava, near the capital.
