Most shops will be closed on Good Friday (March 29), Easter Sunday (March 31), and Easter Monday (April 1) for Easter.

Maundy Thursday (March 28) and Holy Saturday (March 30) are the only two days when it will be possible to do shopping over the Easter holidays.

The Billa, Lidl, Tesco, Kaufland, Terno and COOP Jednota chain stores will be open according to their usual opening hours, although changes may be possible in local stores.

There are some exceptions, though. Shops at stations and airports, souvenir shops, ticket offices, pharmacies, and petrol stations will be open, while small shops staffed by owners - not employees - can also remain open.

Meanwhile, on the night from Saturday to Sunday, winter time comes to an end at 2:00 AM with clocks going forward one hour to 3:00 AM. Because of this, both the national carrier ZSSK and the private transport company Regiojet expect night trains to be an hour late.

In the case of the former, a pair of Zemplín express trains operating between Bratislava and Humenné, as well as the EuroNight train from eastern Slovakia to Prague, will be affected. Regiojet has said its night trains from Prague to Košice and back will be 50 to 60 minutes late.

ZSSK also said that 27 extra trains will be laid on and the number of carriages increased during the Easter holidays. It recommends anyone who wants to travel to buy a train ticket and reservation in advance either online, via an app or SMS service, to avoid queues at ticket kiosks at stations.
