Events lure visitors to ski resorts

FEBRUARY is over, but it seems winter still lies ahead. After "tropical" days, which probably caused some snowless ski resorts to close, meteorologists forecast snowfall. Cold and wet air will flow into Slovakia from the west to northwest. The mountain temperature at 1,500 metres will gradually decrease to minus 3-10 degrees. People should be prepared for heavy snowfall, especially in the middle of the week. This should compensate for a significant loss of the snow layer from previous days. The cooling is also important because the Easter holiday is near. Most resorts would not survive another wave of warm weather without a cold wave first.

Ski resort calendars are full of interesting events this week. Free-style skiing fans can look forward to Newschool Battle, which will take place in the ride park in Donovaly on March 9. Skipark Ružomberok will host a parallel slalom competition on March 8. A well-known company will offer skis for testing during this event.

Those who want to recall International Women's Day from the times of communism should go to Snowland in Valčianska valley where the retro action will take place. Slovak metal band Tublatanka will be there among other performers.

This year the Ypsilon rail park will be built in Liptovské Revúce. Visitors can attend the special occasion to see it and riders in action at Ypsilon Rail Jam on March 8.

The programme is rich and one can only hope for enough snow.
