Unemployment down in H1 2008

THE STATISTICS Office has reported that the number of unemployed decreased to 275,700 by the end of the first half of this year.That is a drop of 7.2 percent year-on-year.

THE STATISTICS Office has reported that the number of unemployed decreased to 275,700 by the end of the first half of this year.That is a drop of 7.2 percent year-on-year.

The average national unemployment rate fell by 1 percentage point to 10.3 percent, the office stated.

In Q1 alone, the number of unemployed declined 7 percent year-on-year to 270,800 and the average joblessness rate for the period declined by 1 percentage point to 10.1 percent.

The office ascribed the favourable development to a drop in the number of persons with unidentified last jobs by 4,200 and a last job in industry by 3,500.
