NEZNÁMA Antarktída (Unknown Antarctica) by Pavol Barabáš will be the first Slovak film released in Blu-ray format.

The 40-minute documentary follows the journey of Peter Valušiak and five other polar explorers across the frozen continent and up to its highest point. Distribution is expected in the first half of October, the SITA newswire wrote, citing iDnes.cz.

As well as the documentary itself, which is in both Slovak and English, the disc will contain a movie about the making of the film and a large photo gallery.

Released in 2007, the documentary has already won top prize at Camera Slovakia in Bratislava, the Best Slovak Film at the Envirofilm festival in Banská Bystrica as well as the Grand Prix at the International Mountaineering Film Festival in the Czech town of Teplice nad Metují, the K2 studio’s website reads.

The film will be shown in Slovak movie theatres beginning October 23.
