The number of recipients of unemployment benefits in Slovakia is on the rise.

The number of recipients of unemployment benefits in Slovakia is on the rise.

A spokesperson for social security provider Sociálna Poisťovňa (SP), Lýdia Výborná, told the SITA newswire that SP paid out the benefit to almost 24,400 people last month. This is the highest monthly number of unemployment benefit claimants so far this year.

Compared to September 2008, the Octber figure represents an increase of almost 1,400 recipients and is 3,400 more than recorded last October. SITA
