Discussions over introducing direct Košice-London flight underway

A direct flight between Košice and London is likely to be introduced as of summer this year, director of the Košice Tourism organisation Iveta Niňajová confirmed to the TASR newswire on Tuesday, April 9.

"This was an initiative of businesspeople affiliated with Košice Tourism, as we realise that accessibility to all of eastern Slovakia is very bad and this factor has been adversely affecting tourism in the region for quite a long time," said Niňajová. Talks on support for the Košice-London flight are underway between the Košice Airport, Košice Tourism and relevant air carriers, with Košice Tourism offering to finance the flight operation based on the number of transported passengers. As negotiations have not yet concluded, Niňajová refused to disclose any details, however.

Košice Tourism is made up of 38 members, which include proprietors of local hotels, restaurants, attractions, transport companies and travel agencies, as well as people from the public sector.
