The new train carrier, private RegioJet, will join the Integrated Transport System of Bratislava Region as of April 2018. Its typical yellow trains are to become a full-fledged part of Bratislava suburban transport and will make commuting from the villages of Kvetoslavov, Miloslavovo, Nové Košariská, Rovinka to the Slovak capital easier. The Bratislava Regional Integrated Transport System (IDS BK) strives to reduce road traffic and make transport more efficient.

The integrated regional RegioJet trains will be marked S70 and will transport passengers on the Bratislava-Kvetoslavov line. Passengers will be able to use all IDS BK tickets, including chip city transport tickets valid for city transport, regional ZSSK trains and regional buses of Slovak Lines. RegioJet will still have a dial tariff, meaning passengers who are not ready to switch to the new system will be allowed to use the RegioJet fares and tickets, valid only onboard this private carrier’s trains.

Advantages for passsengers

"The Bratislava Integrated Transport (BID), coordinator of the IDS BK, has thus connected the first new carrier since the system was established in 2013,” Marian Rovenský, chair of the Board of BID, informed, adding that this step expands the alternative travelling of locals, while improving the environment. “We believe that through cheaper and faster travel from the Bratislava boroughs of Podunajské Biskupice and Vrakuňa to its centre, we will be able to persuade people to switch from cars to integrated public transport, and thus reduce traffic jams,” he noted.

''Entering the IDS BK system will bring another incentive for more passengers to start using train transport for commuting to work or school,” Radim Jančura, owner of RegioJet said, as quoted in a press release. He added that currently, his company transports more than 3,000 passengers each morning to Bratislava, the number of people on its trains increasing 3.5 times.

How the system will work

The new train service will operate three times an hour during peak hours on workdays, and once an hour at other times, vice-governor of Bratislava Region Alžbeta Ožvaldová informed.

New machines for perforating the tickets are now at railway stations Bratislava-Main Station, Bratislava-Nové Mesto, Podunajské Biskupice and Nové Košariská. Gradually, they will be installed in all other train stations on the route. They will enable passengers to perforate their paper tickets, and buy e-tickets with credit on the chip card.
