More than 1,000 employees evacuated from Kia after bomb scare

Although a bomb in the Slovak plant of the Korean carmaker was not found, employees had to be evacuated and production halted.

In the Kia Motors Slovakia (KMS) plant in Teplička nad Váhom, a bomb was announced in the middle of the night. More than 1,000 employees had to be evacuated. Police experts did not find any bomb, the spokesman of Kia Motors Slovakia, Dušan Dvořák, informed the TASR newswire.

“Shortly before 2:00 the police stated that there is a bomb reported in the plant,” Dvořák said, adding that production was halted and all employees were evacuated.

Police experts concluded the investigation in the plant around 7:00. “No explosive was found on the premises,” the spokesman stated. “Night shift production was gradually restarted after police experts concluded the investigation in individual production halls.”

Spokesperson of Žilina Regional Police, Jana Balogová, confirmed that police have already started a criminal prosecution in the spreading of the scaremongering news.
