With the unemployment rate in Slovakia at a historical minimum and many business sectors complaining about a lack of workers, employers are looking at foreigners willing to work in Slovakia to fill the gaps.
The government claims that they want to make their access to the Slovak labour market easier by adopting the strategy of foreigners’ mobility in Slovakia, consisting of short-term and long-term measures. However, it does not apply to all business sectors.
“The aim is to adopt temporary, exceptional steps to solve the current lack of a qualified labour force in the Slovak labour market,” Labour Minister Ján Richter said, adding that later they will consider whether it is necessary to keep the measures, based on the needs of labour market and current number of immigrants living in Slovakia.
The main aim of the measures is to speed up the process of hiring workers to positions with a shortage of employees and only in those counties where the unemployment rate is under 5 percent.
