Former police corps president Tibor Gašpar allegedly already knew in 2013 that Italian businessman Antonino Vadala, with links to the Calabrian organised crime group 'Ndrangheta, set up the group's mafia cell ('ndrina) in Slovakia.
The information was published by Italian investigative journalist Maria Grazia Mazzola, in her story broadcast on the Italian TV channel RAI Uno on April 20, 2019, the Sme daily reported.
Gašpar lied?
Gašpar thus reportedly lied when he said on March 3, 2018, several weeks after the murder of investigative journalist Ján Kuciak, that Slovak police did not have this information, Mazzola claimed.
She referred to the report by the European Police Office (Europol), published on March 9, 2018.
“Slovak police knew [already on August 2, 2013] that Vadala was to establish 'ndrina on the territory of Slovakia,” the report reads, as reported by Sme.
In addition, the Slovak Embassy in Rome and Italy's agency Direzione investigative antimafia, which fights organised crime, reportedly exchanged four letters between March 18, 2013 and November 21, 2013. The letters contained the information as well, Sme wrote.
