Painting 2019: Look at the 20 best Slovak artworks

A hundred painters, who submitted their artwork to the Painting 2019 competition, prove that Slovak art has a lot to offer.

“We are glad that a strong generation of young painters are coming up in Slovakia,” said Alexander Resch, board chair of the VÚB Bank Foundation, which organises the contest, as quoted by the Sme daily.

Twenty painters were long-listed for the award, the winner of which will be announced in September at the Nedbalka Gallery in Bratislava.

Women dominate

In 2019, there are twelve female artists dominating the long-list.

Czech painter Daniel Balabán, British gallerist Rózsa Farkas, Eastern Slovakia Gallery head Dorota Kenderová, and Hungarian contemporary art expert Róna Kopeczky are all part of the international jury, guaranteeing impartiality.
