The Panattoni Europe industrial developer has launched the construction of a new eight-hectare industrial park near the Košice airport, with a price tag of €30 million.

“Our region will make the most out of the fact that the industrial park will stand near the airport because it is a strategic location for logistics,” Košice Region Governor Rastislav Trnka said, as quoted by the SITA newswire.

It is the first project for Panattoni Europe in Slovakia, which is funded by the American industrial developer, the Accolade investment group.

“It has great potential, but still lags far behind in the shadow of the rest of the country,” said Accolade operations manager Lukáš Répala about Košice, as quoted by SITA.

The GGT will move in first

The first hall in the park is said to be open by the end of 2019. It should be used by the GGT tobacco-products distributor.

“In the hall, we will place a new German automated packaging technology, which facilitates the logistics and distribution process itself,” GGT head Roman Hatadám said, as quoted by SITA.

The company will initially employ about 50 workers, but the number is expected to increase later, he added.
